Instruction Goal
To teach students advanced tools required for designing and developing engineering solutions using intellectual property as a starting point to achieve their goals faster, in a more innovative fashion, andto avoid infringement of existing patents.
Outcomes
After completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Prepare a simple license for patents
- Prepare a simple license for copyrights
- Prepare a franchise agreement
- Prepare a valuation report for patents and patent applications
- Prepare a report on open source impact for existing and future IP
- Provide support to litigation efforts in a large corporation
- Learn how to use knowledge of prior art to transform an idea that is not eligible for patent protection to something that is
- Learn how to write patent applications with a strategy toward prosecution
- Prepare patent applications and file the same with the patent and trademark office
